BROKENSTORED

Words by James Rodriguez 2 min read

There was a time in my life when I looked okay on the outside — but inside, I was broken.

I accepted Christ as my Saviour in April 2000 and was baptised. Yet over the years, I drifted. I struggled with sin, unhealthy relationships, pornography, addiction, pride, and choices that hurt the people I loved most.

I could serve in church on Sunday and live differently the rest of the week.

I migrated to Australia in 2012, but the weight of those sins came with me.

In 2014, after my father passed away — with my future uncertain and my finances failing — I hit rock bottom. A season of deep, undeniable brokenness.

And in that brokenness, Christ met me.

Matthew 11:28 became deeply personal:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

I began to understand that even when I wandered, God never abandoned me.

He pursued me.
He carried me.
He restored me.

Restoration was not instant. It was — and still is — a journey. But Christ began changing my heart, my priorities, my relationships, and my understanding of purpose.

Broken reminds me of where I came from.

Restored reminds me that I was never discarded or forgotten — I was held by the Good Shepherd.

PS23 is not about having everything together. It is about knowing that God can bring purpose out of brokenness, and restoration out of surrender.

Had I not experienced brokenness, I would not have known what restoration is.

If you feel broken, remember:

You are not abandoned. You are still being held.

PS23 — Broken, but restored. Brokenstored.
